Wagga Showgrounds Saturday May 1
Mon, 03/05/2010 - 7:53amA good crowd of approximately seven thousand people were on hand at the Wagga Showgrounds to see Clive Featherby representing the Australia contingent with three trucks namely Outback Thunda,Taz and Samson take on Kreg Christensen with his three trucks Avenger USA, Raptors Rampage and Scooby Doo.
The night started of with a programme disaster when the motorcycles for the freesyle and the distance Jump failed to appear for the event Clay potter had been paid in Advance to appear and just never showed and local rider Shane Avenell turned up with four riders all of whom for whatever reason deemed the very same portable ramp that is is used by every normal freestyle rider in the country week in week out as TOO DANGEROUS and a 4pm they packed up and simply drove out leaving us with No bike riders which was entirely out of our control.
Luckily we had only advertised four trucks and had already decided during the week to try to make this Monster truck show a bit more special decided to add the extra two trucks after all this is in the end a Monster truck event.
Also during the week Clive had also book Gary Baxters Holden V8 Ford racing ute series that certainly was a top line un advertised replacement for the bikes who will now be scrapped form further events after Bathurst due to their very unreliable nature.
Once the announcement had been made to the audience at 4.30pm it was back to business as usual getting ready for the 5pm kick off.
Grand parade started of the night at 5 to 5 then straight after this it was
straight into the Skywheelie comp. Kreg did some good jumps in Raptors Rampage and Avenger later in the contest blowing a left front tyre after a heavy landing in Scooby.
Clive had ordinary jumps in a engine failing thunda before coming out and producing the skywheelie of the night in Taz a truck suited for wheelies this was to earn Clive and Australia Victory in the Skywheelie comp over Kreg and the USA.
In the second half of the show every truck produced huge air over the cars looking
back on the replay monitor 59 jumprs were conducted by the six trucks in their
respect 80 seconds per truck allocated Freestyle allowance.
Again all of Kregs trucks drove strongly but then so did Clives the crowd announcing a cheer of between Avenger USA and Taz with Taz just getting the edge to give Clive and Australia a fitting victory in the last of this series by Kreg overall.
Crane drops ,, jet van the racing utes and lots of fireworks made this one great
night overall.
Dissapointly the Extreme Monster trucks Australia team wont be able to get back for at least two years but overall there were some serious jumps there.
As Kreg said on the night these trucks of ours have come so far in the past 12
months were really are catching up with the USA real fast just a shame there are no decent stadiums now to take these performances to but all the major ones don't want a big truck anywhere near their grounds so we stay at the little in adequate showgrounds venues
Now its all systems go for Bathurst on May 15 which will be another great event.
